Azure
In general, and especially for our Open Source Common Ground projects, we prefer a European sovereign cloud provider over the US hyperscalers.
Depending on the context and specific project requirements, we can still opt for a US hyperscaler, with AWS our preferred choice there. Azure remains in the adopt ring as well: we see continued traction in our market and get requests from clients to keep actively supporting it, but our preference for Azure is lower than for AWS.
While still generally preferring AWS over Azure as cloud-native platform for our new client solutions we see that Azure is gaining traction in our market and that we are getting more requests from our clients to continue to actively support it.
For this reason we have decided to put Azure back to adopt and will continue to support existing and new client solutions running on Azure and making sure we maintain our Azure skills in order to do so.
We decided to strongly prefer AWS over Azure as cloud-native platform for new client solutions from now on and therefore put Azure on hold. The main reason for this decision is that at this moment in time we wish to consolidate more on our preferred technology stack to make it easier for us to staff our projects and maintain our client solutions.
We prefer AWS over Azure since AWS is the (local as well as global) market leader in the space of cloud-native computing, and we think offers the best set of services for our needs. Next to AWS we are trialing and assessing PaaS solutions as well.
Eventhough we now favour AWS we will continue to support our existing client solutions running on Azure and we will make sure we maintain our Azure skills in order to do so.
